Seb Tyerman
Seb completed his MChem at Newcastle University in 2021, which included a year abroad conducting research with Professor Rory Waterman at the University of Vermont, USA, where he employed zirconocenes as hydrophosphination catalysts, as well as a final-year project with Dr Erli Lu synthesising novel N-alkyl CAAC ligands to stabilise low-valent alkali metals.
He then moved to the University of Strathclyde for his PhD under the supervision of Professor John Murphy, where he designed and employed novel assay reactions to study how aryl radicals are generated from aryl halides, mediated by transition metals or alkali metal alkoxides.
In 2026, Seb moved to the Donnelly Research Group at Heriot-Watt University, funded by an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship. His research aims to discover new sustainable catalytic methodologies in a range of pharmaceutically relevant transformations. In his free time, Seb is a fan of all things outdoors including hiking, climbing, and particularly whitewater kayaking.
